Syd is goin' camping...

I've always thought of myself as a down-to-earth, pretty spontaneous, slightly adventurous and usually up for anything, kind of a girl! Until my boyfriend asked me if I've ever gone camping. My answer, as embarrassing as it is for me to admit, was "You mean like in a tent?"...Judging by the look on his face, I could tell he was holding back the judgement and simply and sweetly replied "Yes, dear."

Next thing I know, we're planning a camping trip for this weekend. Where we're going to fish. And cook our food on a fire. And sleep in a tent. On the ground. I'm excited about it. I really am.

Hopefully we know eachother well enough now for you to visualize my next move...Yup...Google

"What to do while camping"
"What should I wear on a camping trip?"
"How much should I pack for camping?"
"How to pitch a tent"
"What should I do if my boyfriend wants me to go explore a cave with him and we get bitten by a snake?"

Okay, I didn't Google that last one, but you get the point.

For my time and your attention span's sake, I'm only going to review one of the things I researched. "What should I wear on a camping trip?" (How did you guess that would be the one?!?)

1. Wear Light Layers and nothing fuzzy:
The season you go camping in is definitely going to determine your wardrobe choice. For something at the end of summer, light layers is the best way to go. A t-shirt with a long sleeve flannel on top, is a great way to keep protected from the elements but comfortable.

A lot of people said the best pants to wear, believe it or not, is YOGA PANTS (YES!!!) They're lightweight, but provide warmth and protection from bugs and sticks. They're comfortable if a hike is planned or when you're ready for bed.

Don't forget the high socks and thick boots!

Pretty darn cute.

What To Wear: Going Camping
Thank you someone from www.thesweetestoccasion.com for
reading my mind.

2. Don't wear any perfume or scented hair products
Bugs are attracted to scents! Simple as that!

3. Dry Shampoo
You may want to come to terms with the fact that you may not be showering for a couple of days. Dry Shampoo can be a great way to refresh your hair without the use of water.

4.  Makeup Choices
The whole point of camping is to get in touch with nature and enjoy the great outdoors, right? Do your best to nix the makeup (if I can survive a day or two, so can you). But if necessary, look for things with minimal scent, high SPF, lightweight and waterproof. The less products you pack, the better. I think every girl should be able to get away with these 3 products.

Love my Maybelline Dream Fresh BB Cream
SPF 30, great coverage and super light.
Burt's Bees Sun Protecting Lip Balm will do the trick.
Great for moisture in the elements.
L'oreal Voluminous Waterproof Mascara.
Kind of a God-Send

Here goes nothin'!! Do you have any camping trips planned for this summer or fall?! Tell us how they go in the comments below.

VMA Fashion!

I guess it would be safe to say that typically the MTV Video Music Awards aren't usually the most "high-fashion" and "ultra-classy" affair. You have to hand it to the vast majority of celebs, however. It's definitely their night to go a little crazy and their outfits absolutely showcase that.

My favorite thing to see, however, is the stars who don't change their look JUST to go along with the crazy evening. My votes go for the ones who kept it classy, but still rocked a little edge.

Here is just a handful of some of my favorites of the night...

Is it really Gaga?

Say what you want about her music, style and celebrity status, Lady Gaga knows how to be one-of-a-kind. She's developed the reputation of always keeping the public guessing. Her platform has always been "be yourself, no matter who you are". There's something to be said for that, isn't there? Even if she tends to go way past what most constitute as "normal", we still love her.

But wait, is that her? She looks amazing! That's right, ladies and gents. Gaga can dress "normal" when she wants to, and she looks gorgeous. Check out some of these more "normal" Gaga styles. You'll be wanting to dress like her in no time.

Not formal, but really?? She's wearing an oversized button-down shirt
and she looks awesome in it!

Still true to herself, but that dress is killer.

Wish List: BCBG

I recently made a trip to Frontenac to stop by BCBG and realized why I've tried to stay away from that store for a while now.  I want everything in that store but unfortunately, my wallet does not agree wtih that.  So, I did some online shopping of my current wishlist for my future Fall wardrobe.  They have some amazing new items perfect for transitioning into Fall.  Check out my picks and more here.

Grant Fringed Leather Jacket- This jacket would pretty much go with everything.  I would somehow make this work with all of my Fall outfits.  Pair with a chic black dress, or go more casual with jeans, heels, and a white or black tee.  The fringe detail on the side adds the perfect amount of edge!

Runway Carson Leather Short- These shorts are completely versatile.  I feel you can wear these with a simple tee, or dress them up with a blazer and nice top for a more sophisticated approach.  Perfect for cooler weather.

Elista High Heel Sandal- OK so these arent exactly "Fall" shoes, but I had to post them.  How amazing are these.  They also come in a Tan color.  Perfect for Summer and Spring.  These would definatley be the perfect statement piece.  I would pair these with a printed midi dress or black shorts and white button up for a more casual appraoch.  Depending on how high they go on the ankle, cuffed jeans and a tee/blazer would also be amazing!

Luca Pleather Pull Over-- This entire outfit.  The pull over, the pants, the shoes= Perfect.  I would add some gold jewlelry and wear this on a night out!  I think with the right accessories this can be the perfect look for a night on the town.  Pair the pull over with a printed pencil skirt and ankle boots for a completely different look!  I can even see it with distressed jean shorts and heels for an edgier approach.

"If You've Got it Flaunt it"

I came across this picture of Amanda Seyfried this morning and ablsolutely loved her look.  She wore this sheer vintage style Gucci dress to the Lovelace Premiere in London.  The blue sequened midi dress looks amazing and I love the sheer skirt which shows off her amazing legs.  In my opinion, this look would be hard to pull off for just any occasion.  I've found a few similar looks worn by Kristen Stewart at the Breaking Dawn Premeire and a couple street style looks.  Its a little risque for my taste, but who knows! All of these ladies definately have the bods to rock this sheer look.  What do you think about this sheer trend- risky business or fashionably chic?

Color Queen

I don't know if it's because it's starting to get a little cooler outside, or because I've had the same hair color forever now, but I'm starting to go through my "gotta dye my hair" phase. I will most likely push through that, since I've usually been happiest with my natural hair color. However, for all of you who are much more brave than I, here are some of my favorite UN-natural colors for fall. Maybe one day I'll get on board with the Katy Perrys, Kelly Osbourns and Rhiannas of the world!

Don't forget to hydrate your hair if you're gonna dye it. Last night I did a 30 minute coconut oil mask. My hair is shiny and feels amazing! Just melt about 2 Tablespoons of Coconut oil and message into your scalp. Leave on hair for 30 minutes. Finish with a shampoo.

Another line?

On top of being probably the most popular child stars of the 90's, Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen are now considered 2 of the best businesswomen and fashionistas. They've already developed 6 clothing lines and now they're on their 7th? Bik Bok by Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen has launched in Scandinavia and Norway and many pieces are already sold out. Don't live in Scandinavia? Don't fret. You have 6 other lines of theirs to choose from. The Row, for example, isn't new, but is is an amazing line with incredible pieces. You can see some of their new Fall line below. For more affordable and everyday items, Stylemint is another great line. These girls love their basics, and I love them for it. Check out some of my favorites below.

Falling From Summer

Last week, Syd did a post on "Sweet Transitions" talking about how to transition your Summer wardrobe into Fall.  This week, I decided to focus on one of my favorite Summer staples, and how to carry that into my Fall wardrobe-- The printed mini.  It is such a versatile piece no matter what season, but it can be hard to figure out how to wear it in cooler weather.  My first look pairs the skirt with a white cropped top, ankle wedges, and a fun clutch.  I've added the hat to both looks (I love wearing hats all year round!) The second look pairs a cozy grey sweater, fun socks, and black ankle boots.  For me, theres no such thing as Fall wardrobe and Summer wardrobe--pair the cropped tank with a fun jacket for a night out even when the leaves start falling.  Make the most of your wardrobe and wear your favorite pieces all year round!
